Microsoft releases fully featured Vista preview |
Many companies today still rely on faxes. How else can you get a signed copy of an order? If your business relies on a traditional fax service you may want to consider the free fax to email service.
Benefits Get your fax anywhere at anytime! That’s right, if you are on a business trip, at a trade show or just working from home you will have the ability to get your faxes. Increased efficienc Avoid running around the office asking everyone “Have you seen a fax from Ultra Widgets?” (fictitious name), eliminate documents getting misplaced or lost due to lack of paper. It’s free! That’s right! Currently we can get you this service for nothing. It’s saving you money You will not have to go over to the machine and see all the junk faxes you have just paid to be printed. Now you can see them on the PC and simply delete them. Great to Archive those faxes Faxes can now be saved easily without the need for paper copies. Easy to Distribute As with emails the faxes could easily be distributed to a group or groups of people. For example if you have more then one office you can also set the service up to send a copy to the head office. Faxes can also be set up to go to a public folder (exchange server required) allowing everyone to get them to their desktop.

Microsoft has released a fully featured preview of its flagship Windows Vista operating system to corporate IT departments and developers. The Community Technology Preview release includes tools designed to make the operating system easier to deploy in a business environment and to cut deployment cost-per-desktop. Vista will be released alongside an enhanced version of Business Desktop Deployment. The Vista preview also includes an enhanced Management Console 3.0, improvements to the Group Policy setting and new centralised control over removable storage devices. Other new features include Windows Sidebar, which gives desktop users easy access to Gadgets - customisable mini-applications that provide information at a glance and quick access to frequent tasks. An RSS feed is also included. Ovum analyst Gary Barnett said that while Microsoft was working hard to introduce new features, take-up of these features among corporate users has been very low. "Users are very reluctant to get even more tied into a Microsoft [infrastructure]," he said. Antitrust complaint A group of suppliers - including IBM, Oracle, Sun and Nokia - have lodged a new antitrust complaint against Microsoft with the European Commission. The complaint, which was filed via the European Committee for Interoperable Systems (Ecis), refers to "a range of Microsoft business practices that threaten to deny enterprises and individual consumers real choice among competing software products." Microsoft responded by promising to act "quickly and comprehensively" if asked to respond to the complaint by the Commission. However, it said Ecis was a "front for IBM and a few other competitors which constantly seek to use the regulatory process to their business advantage". |

Blackberry users in the US still have a service after a US judge decided not to immediately turn off the company’s push e-mail service as a result of a patent dispute. The case between Blackberry manufacturer RIM and NTP has been running since 2002, and the pair have failed to settle the matter out of court since a jury ruled that RIM had infringed NTP’s patents. The district judge who has to make a final ruling on what compensation RIM should pay to NTP could have enforced an early injunction against RIM last Friday, which would have closed down the Blackberry network in the US. This would have meant that international Blackberry users visiting the US would not have been able to get their e-mail. However, the judge decided not to issue an immediate ruling on the compensation and what action should be taken against RIM. The judge said he would reveal his decision "as soon as reasonably possible". The US government has already lobbied the court to make sure that federal Blackberry employees should still be able to use their devices if the network is switched off for the general public – something NTP has agreed to try and facilitate. |
